Fairmont State University marked the start of the 2025 spring semester with its Spring Kick-Off event. Faculty and staff gathered to reconnect over breakfast and hear key updates from President Mike Davis followed by an eye-opening update on the state of the sector from higher education consulting firm EAB.
Five Forensic Science students from Fairmont State University, along with their professor Kristy Henson, attended the annual meeting of the Northeastern Association of Forensic Scientists (NEAFS). The participating students included McKenzie Lamm (Stonewood, WV), Jay Bow (Dexter, MI), Katie Long (Hamlin, WV), Jayleigh Payne (Grafton, WV), and Cody Barnes (Shinnston, WV). Among them, Lamm, Bow, Long, and Henson presented their research, showcasing the innovative work being done at Fairmont State.
As 2024 was coming to an end, then Governor Jim Justice appointed Fairmont State alumnus John “JD” DeVaul to the University's Board of Governors. DeVaul replaces Kevin Rogers, and his term will expire June 2026.
Over 1,000 Fairmont State University baccalaureate students have been honored for their academic achievements throughout the fall 2024 semester.
Fairmont State University has received $19,742 through the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission’s Science, Technology, and Research (STaR) Instrumentation Grant to enhance its exercise science curriculum and research efforts. The grant will fund the purchase of a wireless electromyography (EMG) system and a nerve stimulation unit for the Health and Human Performance Department.
In October 2023, Fairmont State University partnered with the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) to launch the Pre-Osteopathic Medicine Program, or POMP. The program guarantees Fairmont State students, who meet all program requirements, acceptance into WVSOM.
