  • Editor: Donna J. Long
  • Donna J. Long has served as Editor-in-Chief of Kestrel since 2008. Her own poems have been published in many journals, including The Southern Review, Clockhouse, Appalachian Heritage, and Fourth River, which nominated “Eleventh Grade English Oral” for a Pushcart Prize. She is Professor of English at Fairmont State University
  • Poetry Editor: Elizabeth Savage
  • Elizabeth Savage is the author of three poetry collections, Idylliad (2015), Grammar (2012), and Daylight Scoured (2019) from Furniture Press, as well as several chapbooks, including Woman Looking at a Vase of Flowers (2017) and Detail (2019) from Dancing Girl Press. Recent reviews and essays appear in Quo Anima: Innovation and Spirituality in Contemporary Women’s Poetry (Elizabeth Robinson & Jennifer Phelps, eds.), Journal of Modern Literature, and Jacket2. She is the recipient of the Denise Levertov Memorial Prize for Poetry and, with Ethel Rackin, the Thomas Merton Prize for Poetry of the Sacred.
  • Fiction Editor: Suzanne Heagy
  • Suzanne Heagy’s first novel Love Lets Us Down (All Nations Press) was released in November 2015 and recognized as a finalist in the 18th annual Foreword Reviews’ INDIEFAB Book of the Year Awards. Her short stories have appeared most recently in The Anthology of Appalachian Literature, Schuylkill Valley Journal, and in Your Impossible Voice, Pleiades, and Untamed Ink, among others. Suzanne has served as fiction editor of Kestrel, the art and literary journal at Fairmont State University, since 2008.

  • Reviews Editor: Nathan Myers 
  • Nathan Myers is Assistant Professor of English. He joined Fairmont States faculty in 2015. He has a masters degree in fiction and earned his PhD at Ball State University. He is a committed recycler. 
  • Art Editor: Kylie Ford
  • Kylie Ford is an artist and educator working in Fairmont, West Virginia. She holds undergraduate degrees in Art Education and Studio Art with a 3D concentration from Fairmont State University and a Master of Fine Arts from Maine College of Art. In addition, Ford has completed a summer intensive residency at Chautauqua School of Art in Chautauqua, New York and has recently been juried into the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh. Ford’s work has been exhibited in venues such as Boston University Art Galleries, Manifest Gallery, Huntington Museum of Art, Marshall University, Blackhills State University, Flatbed Press and Galleries, among others. She has received awards and recognitions from Real Art Ways in Hartford, Connecticut, Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, New York, The Albert K. Murray Fine Art Educational Fund, and the West Virginia Art Education Association. Ford is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at Fairmont State University.
  • Media Editor: Velicia Jerus Darquenne
  • Velicia Jerus Darquenne is from Clarksburg, WV. Her work has been published in Crack the Spine, Pretty Owl Poetry, Saw Palm, and she won the 2016 Best Prose Award from Whetstone, Fairmont State University's undergraduate literary journal. She earned her BA in English from FSU in 2015 and recently graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College's MFA program. 
  • Intern: Lishea Eddy
  • Lishea Eddy is a senior at Fairmont State University. She has been published in Whetstone several times and is working on a novel titled "Yellow." After graduating, Lishea plans to obtain higher education degrees, while also teaching upper level English courses.
