  • Editor: Donna J. Long
  • Donna J. Long has served as Editor-in-Chief of Kestrel since 2008. Her own poems have been published in many journals, including The Southern Review, Clockhouse, Appalachian Heritage, and Fourth River, which nominated “Eleventh Grade English Oral” for a Pushcart Prize. She is Professor of English at Fairmont State University
  • Poetry Editor: Elizabeth Savage
  • Elizabeth Savage has served as Kestrel’s poetry editor since 2008. She is a feminist critic and poet whose recent work appears or is forthcoming in Court Green, Hotel Amerika, Shenandoah, Journal of Modern Literature, and Humanities.
  • Fiction Editor: Suzanne Heagy
  • Suzanne Heagy is a writer, teacher, and editor. Her first novel, Love Lets Us Down (2015), was recognized as a finalist in the 18th annual Foreword Reviews’ INDIEFAB Book of the Year Awards. Her story, “Eden on a Hill” was a finalist in the 2020 West Virginia Fiction Competition. Her work has appeared in Pleiades, Untamed Ink, Dos Passos Review, Poetry Southeast, and other literary journals. Suzanne is a member of the women’s collective, The Gloria Sirens, and writes a monthly column for their site at https://thegloriasirens.com/.

  • Nathan Myers is an Associate Professor of English. He joined Fairmont State’s faculty in 2015.
  • Art Editor: Kylie Ford
  • Kylie Ford is an artist and educator residing in Fairmont, West Virginia. She holds undergraduate degrees in Art Education and Studio Art from Fairmont State University and a Master of Fine Arts from Maine College of Art. Ford’s work has been exhibited in venues such as Real Art Ways, Boston University Art Galleries, Manifest Gallery, Huntington Museum of Art, Marshall University, Blackhills State University, and Flatbed Press and Galleries.
  • Media Editor: Hayley Harvey
  • Hayley Harvey is a student studying English Literature at Fairmont State University. She is an intern for Fairmont State’s literary journal Kestrel as well as a published part of the student journal Whetstone. Hayley enjoys watching Chinese dramas and painting her favorite K-pop bands. She adores reading and writing and looks forward to continuing on with Kestrel as an intern. 
  • Intern: Mackenzie Rogers
  • Mackenzie Rogers is a student at Fairmont State University, studying English Literature.  She is an intern with Fairmont State’s literary journal Kestrel. Mackenzie has had some of her poetry published in The Travelin Appalachian Revue.  Mackenzie enjoys doing yoga and writing poetry.  She hopes to further her English career and become a professor in the future.
