Hunt-Arnold Diversity Scholarship

The Hunt-Arnold Diversity Scholarship is open to incoming freshmen and is offered to those students who have the potential to share with the campus community their varied cultural perspectives and diverse backgrounds that are traditionally underrepresented in higher education.   It is named in honor of Carl Hunt and Eugene Arnold, former Fairmont State faculty members who fostered an inclusive and diverse environment at Fairmont State for many years.

This scholarship is awarded for a maximum of eight semesters or until program completion, whichever occurs first.  Renewal of scholarship is determined at the conclusion of each spring semester and requires that recipients maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average, successfully complete at least 24 credit hours during fall/spring semesters, and annual submission of Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1st

Application Requirements

  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident
  • Must be a resident of WV
  • Must submit the Hunt-Arnold Diversity Scholarship application by May 1st of senior year in high school
  • Must submit at least two signed letters of reference  from school official, teacher, member of a community organization, or employer
  • Must submit personal essay on the topic “How do you define diversity and how can you help make Fairmont State University a more diverse campus?”
  • Must submit Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1st of senior year in high school
  • Must apply for admission to Fairmont State University by March 1st of senior year in high school

Selection Criteria

Recipients are chosen by the Hunt-Arnold Diversity Scholarship Committee who will consider, among other factors:

  • Participation in community and/or school activities
  • Evidence of ability to contribute to the diversity of Fairmont State University
  • First generation of the family to attend college
  • Financial need as defined by federal guidelines

Scholarship Application

Hunt-Arnold Diversity Scholarship application, essay, and two letters of reference should be sent by May 1st of your senior year in high school.
