Registration Impact

Registration

Registering for classes each semester is an important part of your experience at Fairmont State University. After all, you'll want to make sure you get the classes you need to complete your major, as well as take the opportunity to explore other subjects you may find interesting and want to explore.

Classes can fill up quickly though, so we aim to make the registration process as fair and easy as possible. The order of registration is determined by class level, with seniors, graduate students, and post-graduates registering first, followed by juniors, then sophomores, and finally freshmen.

The determination of class level for registration is as follows:

  • Senior - More than 90 hours earned
  • Junior - 60-89 hours earned
  • Sophomore - 30-59 hours earned
  • Freshman - 0-29 hour earned

Getting Help Picking Classes

It can be a challenge to find and pick all the classes you'll need each semester. Fortunately, you won't have to do it alone.

You must meet with your advisor every semester before registration to receive your individual Personal Identification Number (PIN), which you'll need to complete the registration process. In addition to providing your PIN, your advisor will also offer guidance on what classes you should consider taking to continue making progress in your major.

If you have declared a major, you will meet with an assigned advisor in your major. If you're an Academic Pathway student, you will meet with an advisor in the Office of Advising, Room 248 Hardway Hall, by appointment.

Your advisor will help to ensure that you take courses in the appropriate order to increase the likelihood that you will graduate on time. Some courses are offered only once per year or once every two years, and your advisor will ensure you don't miss a needed course. Your advisor can also serve as a mentor, providing valuable information about your chosen field.
