Fairmont State University’s College of Science and Technology has been awarded $5,000 through the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh towards the purchase of a Fourier-Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectrometer. The device will be used by the University’s chemistry and forensic science programs.

John and Kat Guido have established The Dr. & Mrs. Joseph P. Guido Memorial Scholarship in honor of his parents – Joseph and Therese.
Three West Virginia high school seniors have been selected as recipients of Fairmont State University’s premier academic scholarship. Grace Wells (Fairmont, W.VA), Lauren Bailey (Ripley, W.VA) and Madison Lagasse (Salem, W.VA) will have the entirety of their tuition and more paid for by the Charles J. McClain Presidential Scholarship. In addition to tuition, the McClain scholarship covers room and board and provides scholarship awardees with a $500 per semester allowance to purchase textbooks from the Fairmont State Bound for Success bookstore.
For the third year, Fairmont State University will host the annual Kickin’ It for Katy 5k run/walkand its companion event, Stomp Out the Stigma. The events will take place on April 27 with the goal of spreading awareness and support for suicide prevention and mental health care.

Seniors from two winning teams, Jefferson High School (Shenandoah Junction, WV) and Parkersburg High School (Parkersburg, WV) each received a $1,000 Fairmont State scholarship in recognition of their accomplishments during Fairmont State University’s science showdown. Twelve teams of four students comprising juniors and seniors from seven area schools competed in a series of scientific challenges as part of the University’s Science Showdown on February 24. This is the second year in a row Fairmont State has hosted this event.
During their February 15 meeting, Fairmont State University’s Board of Governors (BOG) approved planning for a new online criminal justice bachelor’s degree program, endorsed next steps to clarify policy review and creation, announced improved housing occupancy rates, and reported continued financial stability.
Fairmont State University will host its fifth Falcon Day of Giving on Thursday, February 29 with a fundraising goal of $375,000. This 24-hour campaign aims to inspire Falcons to come together, show pride in their alma mater, and provide essential funding to support current and future students. Over 50 programs across campus, including academic units, athletic teams, student organizations, and student support initiatives will benefit from funds raised during this event.
Fairmont State University’s Center for Teaching and Learning Innovation (CTLI) will host a conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology, February 28-29. The conference will be held in the Falcon Center conference rooms and feature peer-reviewed presentations by Fairmont State faculty, staff, and students, as well as colleagues from other institutions.
New Fairmont State University President, Dr. Mike Davis, will make his inaugural visit to the West Virginia State Capitol along with more than 25 Fairmont State University students, faculty, alumni, and staff on Monday, January 29.
Fairmont State University has received a grant totaling $2,548,265 over the next five years from the Katherine Johnson NASA Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) to extend the existence of the Education Resource Center (ERC). These funds represent the continuation of a collaborative relationship between the two agencies spanning over 20 years.
Each fall and winter, Fairmont State University offers West Virginia seniors an opportunity to apply for their premier academic scholarship, the Charles J. McClain Scholarship. Through a highly competitive process, twenty students will be invited to campus to compete for the scholarship. All applicants invited to campus will receive an academic scholarship, with three students being named McClain Scholars. McClain Scholars will receive tuition and fees, room and board for on-campus students, and a $500 per semester book scholarship for the on-campus Bound for Success Bookstore. The McClain Scholarship will cover up to four years (eight semesters) for the selected three students, estimated at approximately $80,000 per student.
More than 1,000 students have been honored for their academic achievement at Fairmont State University after completing the Fall 2023 semester.
Back in August, the state of West Virginia was left in shock when Alderson Broaddus closed its doors permanently. Many students and employees were forced to relocate to different universities across the state.
