Lesson Types & Levels

Not sure which level is right for your child? Contact Miranda.Yauger@fairmontstate.edu or (304)368-7131 and we'll help you choose. Here's an overview of each level:

Parent & Me

Ages: 6 months - 3 years
Prerequisite(s): Those still requires swim diapers & parent assistance to feel comfortable in the water.

Swimmers embarking on their water safety journey will gain confidence and essential skills, while parents will learn techniques to enhance their child's confidence, coordination, and water safety through engaging activities like music and games. Only one parent is permitted in each class, and all children must wear swim diapers.

Pre-Beginner

Ages: 3 - 4 years
Prerequisite(s): Completed Parent & Me course or child must be willing to participate without a parent/guardian in the water.

This class builds water confidence and foundational water safety skills in a small group setting led by a certified instructor. Little to no prior swimming experience required.

Level 1

Ages: 5 - 12 years
Prerequisite(s): Completed Pre-Beginner course or equivalent skills.

The focus is on water exploration and elementary aquatic skills. The course aims for participants to achieve executing front and back floats independently and the introduction to freestyle stroke arms and legs.

Level 2

Ages: 5 - 12 years
Prerequisite(s): Completed Level 1 course or equivalent skills.

Building on Level 1, participants begin developing independent movement in the water and safety skills. This level marks the transition to swimming on front and back, and water explorartion without support.

Level 3

Ages: 5 - 12 years
Prerequisite(s): Completed Level 2 course or equivalent skills.

Swimmers refine specific strokes in this course. Focus areas include freestyle, backstroke, treading water, and dolphin kicks.

Private & Semi-Private Lessons

Ages: 3 & Up
Prerequisite(s): Must be able to communicate with their instructor.

Private and semi-private swim lessons offer personalized instruction tailored to individual needs, allowing for focused skill development and faster progress in a supportive environment. Participants benefit from dedicated attention from experienced instructors, fostering confidence and competence in the water.

As with many swim lesson programs, parents will be asked to remain on the patio or in the lobby whilst lessons are in session.
