LPN to ASN

Upon graduation the LPN received the Associate of Science in Nursing Degree and is eligible to sit tor the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). 

The non-traditional program is best for LPNs who have completed their support courses for nursing.  The nursing courses are taught asynchronously online.  Clinical experiences are conducted two days each month.  Students should possess basic computer skills, have computer access, and a high-speed Internet connection.   Class size is limited to 32 admissions per cohort.  

Key Features of the Program 

  • Completed in 1 year, 3 consecutive semesters. 
  • Allows students to take classes and still work full time with other responsibilities. 
  • Classes are online with clinical 2-3 days per month, until last semester. 
  • Clinicals held in the Fairmont region for the first 2 semesters, possibly held in student’s area of residence last semester. 
  • Students admitted in a cohort fashion. 
  • Small class size. 
  • Experiences in state-of-the-art skills and simulation labs. 
  • Provides the LPN who possess a valid unencumbered LPN license to receive credit for NURS 1101 (Fundamental of Nursing, 7cr). 
  • Allows the LPN to challenge Anatomy and Physiology (BIOL 1180/1181, 4cr) and Nutrition (NUTR 1110, 3cr). 
  • Applicants must meet the requirements for admission to the program.

Effective Fall 2020 

Pre-Requisite Courses 

 The student must have these courses completed in order to enter the nursing program:

  • ENGL  1101 – Written English I (3 cr) 
  • ENGL  1102 – Written English II (3 cr) 
  • PSYC  1101 – Introduction to Psychology (3 cr) 
  • *NUTR  1110 – Nutrition (3 cr) 
  • The student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 
  • *BIOL  1180 & 1181 – Anatomy & Physiology (3 cr) and Lab (1 cr) 
  • *LPN to ASN students can take a challenge exam for these courses.  The exams are best taken the semester before entering the program (i.e. For Fall Admission take in the Spring Semester) 

Transition Into the RN to BSN Program

Students who have completed their first two semesters of the ASN program and have earned a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher and have been successful in their first attempt at all nursing courses are eligible to enroll in NURS 3320 (Health Assessment) and NURS 3360 (Nursing Ethics).  Permission to do so is required from your academic advisor and the BSN faculty. 

Following graduation, students who plan to transition into the BSN program must submit an application to the nursing program and meet the BSN program admission requirements.
