Curriculum: What You’ll Learn

The BSN features an interdisciplinary curriculum that provides a broad base of learning. It prepares you for a variety of Nursing career goals, whether you want to become a Critical Care Nurse, Staff Nurse, Nurse Manager, or Pediatric Nurse 

Health Assessment

Using clinical judgement skills to analyze assessment results and applying them to implement patient care, students will further develop their role in physical assessment as an entry-level professional nurse.  

Population Health

Students will focus on the role of the entry-level professional nurse in providing healthcare for vulnerable groups and populations through evidence-based strategies, health promotion, health education, and illness prevention.

Application of Evidence Based Practice

Students implement this capstone course through the integration of evidence-based practice in the entry level professional nurse role.

  • Higher Pay: Some hospitals will encourage their nurses to get a bachelor’s degree and may hand out a pay increase as an incentive.  
  • Higher Positions: Having a BSN is a requirement for positions like Nurse Manager. 
  • Master’s Degree: A bachelor’s degree is necessary for pursuing a master’s degree, which can unlock even more positions such as Nurse Practitioner or Nursing Educator.

Admission Requirements

All applicants seeking admission to the BSN Program RN-BSN track are required to:  

  • Meet the general admission and course placement requirements of Fairmont State University.  
  • Hold an active, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse as a prerequisite for NURS 3370 and above.  
  • Submit an application for Fairmont State admission designating the Bachelor of Science in Nursing as the major field of study 
  • Submit official college or diploma program transcripts.  
  • Have and maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and a “C” or above in all courses counted toward the BSN.  
  • Students who have completed their first two semesters of the ASN program and have earned a GPA of 2.75 or higher and have been successful in their first attempt of all nursing courses may be eligible to take NURS 3320 and NURS 3360.
