5. Apply for Scholarships

PRIORITY DEADLINE, March 1

Scholarships are free money awarded to students for merit, the demonstration of financial need, or a combination of both. Scholarships are not loans, and they do not need to be repaid. Some are one-time awards, while others may be renewed throughout a student’s college career.

Fairmont State University offers dozens of scholarships. Some scholarships are based solely on talent, academic achievement, leadership, and/or other contributions without reference to financial need. Others are earmarked for those who present strong academic and leadership potential and have demonstrated financial need. Among the many scholarships we offer are:

Presidential Scholarship

The Presidential Scholarship is Fairmont State’s premier academic scholarship. This competitive scholarship includes tuition and fees, room and board, and a book stipend. Must reside in the state of West Virginia.

Opportunity Scholarship

The Opportunity Scholarship offers West Virginia students additional funding to assist with tuition and fees only. These renewable scholarships are available in $500, $1,500, $2,000, and $2,500 amounts, depending on GPA and test scores.

Metro Rate & Metro Scholarship

College is a big investment. That’s why we’ve created our Metro Rate Scholarship for residents of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Kentucky. With this scholarship, you might pay a tuition that is even lower than the in-state tuition in your home state. Do you also qualify for the Metro Scholarship? Contact us to find out!

Out of State Scholarship

The Out-of-State Scholarship rewards students who live outside of West Virginia for the hard work they have completed in high school. These renewable scholarships are available in $2,000, $4,000, and $6,000 amounts, depending on GPA and test scores.

6. Apply for Housing

Once you’ve been accepted to Fairmont State, be sure to apply for housing if you intend to live on campus. If you will be a Fairmont State Freshmen or Sophomore, or if you are a transfer student with less than 60 credit hours, you are required to live on campus four consecutive semesters.

Apply for housing as soon as you decide to become a Falcon – doing so will give you a better chance to get your top choice of residence halls.

4 Great Reasons to Live on Campus

Your Success.

Research shows that students who do are more likely to stay in school than their peers who don’t live on campus. This means you’re more likely to graduate – and graduating from college leads to a better, more rewarding career (and that’s sort of the main point of college, right?).

Your Community.

It’s simple: Home is where you hang out with friends, and you’ll not only make lifelong friends in college but you’ll also create memories that last a lifetime.

Your Good Times.

From intramural sports to performing arts to cheering on the Falcons at sporting events, Fairmont State keeps your schedule full of fun activities, all just a short walk from your residence hall.

Your convenience.

No commuting headaches. Plenty of dining options. Free laundry services & Wi-Fi.
