Fairmont State to host Earth Day activities

Beginning this week, Fairmont State University students, faculty and staff will be celebrating Earth Day through various programming focused on creating environmental awareness and promoting sustainability.

According to Professor of Chemistry Dr. Erica Harvey, April 22 serves as a reminder of our shared commitment and obligation to our planet and the ways in which we can practice sustainability all year round.

Fairmont State University representatives attend White House forum on climate change

On Wednesday, March 8, Fairmont State University Professor of Chemistry Dr. Erica Harvey and Mechanical Engineering student Eliza Keener participated in a forum hosted by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy at the White House in Washington D.C. The forum focused on solutions for campus and community climate change.

Fairmont State Campus, Electric Vehicle Chargers Available for Community Use

In accordance with the phased reopening of campus announced last month, Fairmont State University is now fully open to the public as of June 1. 

The reopening allows community members access to all areas of campus including the Falcon Center gym, cafeteria and restaurants. In addition, the University’s two electric vehicle charging stations are now available for public use at no cost.

Fairmont State Outdoor Recreation teamed up with the Fairmont State Tennis Team and Explorer’s Club for a campus clean-up event on Friday, October 16, where the volunteers collected a record breaking 762.8 pounds of debris and litter, earning 25 volunteer hours collectively. 

Sustainability Council moves 2020 Earth Day event virtual

Despite the pandemic, Fairmont State University’s Creative Sustainability Council has been working to ensure that the 50th annual celebration of Earth Day on April 22 does not go unnoticed. This year’s objective is to educate about sustainability practices, acknowledge efforts made thus far, and remain hopeful for the progress that is to come.

Fairmont State Faculty Receive $20,000 Grant

A four-member team of faculty from Fairmont State University’s College of Science and Technology have been awarded a $20,000 grant from West Virginia Science & Research, a division of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. Team members include Dr. Mark Flood, Dr. Erica Harvey, Dr. Matt Scanlon and Dr. Andreas Baur. The grant will be used to acquire an atomic absorption (AA) spectrometer.
