It is the mission of the Fairmont State University Financial Aid and Scholarship Office to assist students achieve their educational goals by promoting scholarships, grants, Federal Work Study, and loans. We understand that these opportunities are needed to make college a reality for many students. We aim to educate, assist, and inform students about the financial aid resources available to them in a student friendly atmosphere. 

Financial assistance in the form of scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study is available to full and part-time students who qualify.

 

2023-2024 FAFSA

Important information you need to know. 

 

What do you need to complete the FAFSA?

  • Your Social Security Number
  • Your Alien Registration Number (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
  • Your 2021 federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned.
    • (Note: You may be able to transfer your federal tax return information into your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.)
  • Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
  • Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
  • An FSA ID to sign electronically.
  • If you are a dependent student, then you will also need most of the above information for your parent(s).

When should you complete the 2023-2024 FAFSA?

  • Complete your FAFSA as soon as possible after October 1.
  • Institutional deadlines have not changed. Fairmont State University priority deadline is March 1st.
  • State deadlines have not changed. 
    • Promise Scholarship Deadline:  March 1st
    • West Virginia Higher Education Grant Deadline:  April 15th

When will students begin receiving award notifications for the 2023-2024 academic year?

  • Fall 2023 First Time Freshman will begin receiving award packages in December if:
    • Student has been admitted to Fairmont State University
    • FAFSA and Financial Aid file is complete.
  • Fall 2023 Upperclass/continuing students will begin receiving award packages in May if:
    • FAFSA and Financial Aid file is complete.
    • Student is meeting satisfactory academic progress
