I graduated from Fairmont State University with bachelor’s degrees in mathematics, mathematics education, and chemistry education in 2004. After completing my master’s degree in mathematics at West Virginia University in 2006, I taught math at Fairmont Senior High School for 9 years. In 2015, I was named the Secondary Mathematics Teacher of the Year by the West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Currently, I am working on my Ed.D. in Curriculum & Instruction from WVU, with an emphasis on mathematics education.
At FSU, I primarily teach mathematics education courses for elementary and secondary teacher candidates. I work with Learning Options Inc., a local educational non-profit organization, to facilitate opportunities for elementary teacher candidates to teach lesson at the Math FAN Club, a weekly after-school program for students in grades 2-5. I also oversee student teachers in mathematics.
Outside of FSU, I am a bible class teacher and volunteer 4-H leader. I also play clarinet in a local community band. Other activities I enjoy are reading, cooking, and spending time with family.
I love the close-knit campus community and the small classes at FSU. Both allow me to really get to know my colleagues and students.
