Joseph Riesen

Joe Riesen has been a faculty member at Fairmont State since 1992. Prior to his arrival in Fairmont, he attended Moorhead State University in Minnesota (Bachelor's in Math), University of Nebraska-Lincoln (Master's in Math) and Northwestern University (Ph.D. in Math). He has always wanted to be a teacher, and that makes Fairmont State a perfect place to work. Most of his energy and time is spent teaching and helping students. He helped to create the Applied Calculus Sequence for Science, Technology and Business and Economics students. He regularly teaches Applied Calculus, Technical Math, Calculus, Linear and Abstract Algebra. Joe has been a member of the Faculty Senate for a number of years. For nine years he was a member of the Advising Center staff, working with undeclared students during the year and all new and transfer students during summer registration. Outside of Fairmont State, Joe Riesen is a member of the Blue Ribbon Math Council of Northern West Virginia and the Math, Science and Technology Consortium of North Central West Virginia. In his spare time, Joe plays guitar and sings at All Saint's Catholic Church in Bridgeport, W.Va., plays guitar and bass with friends and is learning to repair antique mechanical clocks.
