French Impact

French

French is the world’s second-most studied second language, right after English. It is a language of diplomacy, international organizations, cultural innovation, and scientific research.

Students who participate in the French minor at Fairmont State are prepared to communicate internationally.  French is spoken in more than 40 countries on all continents. Students can expect classes to work toward maximum proficiency in speaking, listening, and writing in French.

The French minor builds cultural knowledge and intercultural thinking, beginning with the first course. Education students who include French in their academic plan could be in more demand and earn higher pay by being able to teach a second specialization. Adding the French minor adds value and increases marketability in any specialization.

Students with diverse interests and degree programs are encouraged to study abroad with an approved program for a portion of their French minor coursework.
