The Spirit of Ethel FerrellEthel Ferrell was born in a log cabin in Monongalia County W.V. She was the oldest of six girls and attended the Jordan and Opekiska schools . She  attended Fairmont Normal School and graduated in June of 1919. Ethel was five foot five inches tall and weighed 90 pounds. She married Roy Robert Ferrell June 25, 1919 and they had one son, Robert,  and three daughters, Jane, Shannon, and Betty. She only taught school for a year and a half, but was instrumental in the constant education of her children. Ethel even made mundane walks in the woods a learning experience for them. Ethel Ferrell encouraged her children and believed in the power of education throughout her life. She  died around 1984.

*The sculpture shown entitled, "The Spirit of Ethel Ferrell" was created by Fairmont State Professor, Robert Barry Snyder, and is located outside of the Snodgrass One-room Schoolhouse.
