B.S. Degree in Information Systems Management

The IS program provides students with a foundation in the functional areas of business and a foundation in computing technologies that enables graduates to pursue both technical and managerial careers incorporating leading edge technologies in public and private organizations. The program builds on the core of the business program to prepare students for the social and technical analysis, design, development, implementation and management of systems.

The Information Systems curriculum covers these broad areas:

• Information Systems: Students will study topics ranging from computer hardware, network architecture, project management, systems analysis and design, and database administrative techniques. Our cirriculum will prepare students with a foundation of knowledge to step into some of the hottest jobs on the job market today.
• Programming and Development:  From the basics of Object-Oriented Programming to the design and development of advanced application and databases, our cirriculum will challenge the student to think outside-the-box and develop problem-solving skills to build and implement software.
• Critical Thinking and Analysis:  These courses will build upon the knowledge base as the student progresses through the program.  This area will build the needed framework to be successful in the larger world and prepare them for more advanced courses.
• Communication:  Where does the actual design and implementation refer to the actual presentation?  Bridging the gap the student learns that communicating with others is vital in the business world.  Understanding the technology is the first step, being able to present it in a way that people can understand it is the goal.
• Support: It is can be easy to forget how important it is to have a talented team there to help.  Our faculty and students are ready to assist with everything from class scheduling to where the best places are to eat.  We have an inclusive community, come join us.

Businesses are not in the business of processing information for its own sake. Instead they process information in order to improve organizational performance and produce profits. From a business perspective, an information system is an important instrument for creating value for the organization. There are many ways in which information systems can contribute to firm value, including increasing the firm's return on its investments, enhancing the company's strategic position, or increasing the market value of the firm's stock. Information processing activities support management decision making, enhance the execution of business processes and as a result increase business value.
