That former Monongahela River oil barge bell outside Fairmont State University’s education building has some colorful layers of history.

In 1940, the City of Fairmont presented the Victory Bell to what used to be the Fairmont State Teacher’s College.

By the 1960’s tradition steered fierce Falcon competitors to make their mark on the bell, protect their creative work, and make sure campus strollers didn’t miss the colorful statement.

The painting continues today.  All student organizations and campus groups are welcomed and encouraged to paint the bell in an effort to increase school spirit.

Follow the rules, show your Falcon pride, and we’ll make sure you’re first to get your Victory Bell masterpiece some publicity.

Check out the Bell Painting Agreement here or call (304) 367-4705 with questions on painting and scheduling.
