Nearly one hundred adult learners will be recognized for successful completion of their General Educational Development (GED) certificates at the Marion County Adult and Community Education Center (MCACEC) Graduation and Recognition Ceremony, June 3, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. The ceremony is being hosted by Pierpont Community & Technical College in the Turley Center Ballroom. The public is welcome to attend.
In addition to those earning their GED certificates, 19 students who have completed the Computer Integrated Manufacturing/Automated Electrical Technology Program and students who have attained increases in proficiency levels in math and reading will be recognized during the ceremony.
State Senator Roman Prezioso will serve as the evening's commencement speaker. Prezioso also serves as Administrative Assistant and oversees MCACEC. He will be retiring from public education this year after more than 30 years as a teacher, principal and administrator.
MCACEC is located at 601 Locust Avenue and offers high quality educational opportunities designed to meet the needs of adult learners and help them increase their proficiency in vital areas such as reading and math. Traditionally associated with GED preparation courses, the center has begun offering competency-based, skill-centered programs such as the Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) program. 95% of completers in that program attained a nationally recognized Work Keys Certification following completion.
Pierpont Community & Technical College has partnered with MCACEC to offer a wrap-around associate degree for the CIM program and offers a scholarship to a MCACEC GED graduate each year. MCACEC has a certified teacher available on Pierpont's campus to help students needing to brush up on reading or math skills.
