Friends and fans of Nick Saban filled Fairmont State University's Colebank Hall on May 25 for a Marion County Chamber of Commerce event to welcome the legendary coach home to Marion County.

 

Nearly one hundred adult learners will be recognized for successful completion of their General Educational Development (GED) certificates at the Marion County Adult and Community Education Center (MCACEC)  Graduation and Recognition Ceremony, June 3, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. The ceremony is being hosted by Pierpont Community & Technical College in the Turley Center Ballroom. The public is welcome to attend.

This summer, the Falcon Center at Fairmont State University will offer a Summer Day Camp featuring eight, single-week, full-day sessions for children ages 6 to 12.

"Dear God. How did you know you were God?" "Dear God. Are you really invisible or is that just a trick?" "Dear God. How come you did all the miracles in the old days and you don't do any now?" Based on the book by Stuart Hample and Eric Marshall, "Children's Letters to God" is a show for the entire family.   

 

Bo Sellers, Professional Development Coordinator for Pierpont Community & Technical College, is participating in the Community Development Institute East (CDI East), one of five such institutes held throughout the United States. This month he completed the first in a series of specialized training sessions in community development.

 

Dr. Rosemarie Romesburg, Dean of Pierpont Community & Technical College's School of Health Careers and Director of Pierpont's Medical Laboratory Technology program has been named a Distinguished Alumna by the University of Pittsburgh's School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.

Their hard work and dedication have paid off; they have earned credentials which will serve them well as they move forward and they have learned more about the world and how it works.

The Fairmont State University Strategic Planning Committee's proposed revisions and updates to the Strategic Plan were premiered to faculty and staff during a presentation by Dr. Rick Harvey, Dean of the School of Business and chair of the committee, on Thursday, May 6.

 

Beginning this fall, Pierpont Community & Technical College students will have an additional option for getting textbooks. The campus bookstore will be offering a new textbook rental program.

Fourteen Fairmont State University employees were honored during the annual Retiree Reception on April 30.

Fairmont State University has announced the winners of the annual M.M. Neely Persuasive Speaking Contest.

Beginning in the fall of 2010, the Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College Bookstore will give students a new lease on their sometimes budget-focused, hectic lives by offering a new, multi-channel textbook rental program designed to deliver maximum savings and convenience.

More than 360 students will participate in Spring Commencement for Fairmont State University. Gov. Joe Manchin will be the speaker.

 

Lyla Grandstaff, Director of Off-Campus Programs North for Pierpont Community & Technical College has announced she is resigning to focus on developing and promoting her own business. Her last official day will be Friday, May 14^th.

 

Students who have completed their work and met the requirements to earn their degrees from Pierpont Community & Technical College this semester will be marking their achievement at Pierpont's 2010 Spring Commencement exercises, Friday, May 14, 2010.  Approximately 100 of the 240 eligible students plan to participate in the ceremony which will be held in the Feaster Center on Pierpont's main campus in Fairmont beginning at 6:30 p.m. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony.

 

Community members and colleagues gathered in Fairmont on Friday morning, May 7^th, to honor Pierpont Community & Technical College President Blair Montgomery for his many years of service to the region. Montgomery will be retiring at the end of May after 36 years of service to Pierpont Community & Technical College and Fairmont State.

Fairmont State University has named Sharon Handelsman as Interim Vice President for Enrollment Services. She began her duties on Monday, May 3.             

 

The 2009-2010 Academic Year is coming to a close, and Pierpont Community & Technical College has taken the opportunity to recognize faculty and staff for their excellence and to thank them for many years of service.

At the 2010 Academic Awards Banquet, held Friday, April 23, three faculty members were honored for their outstanding professionalism.

 

The 2010 "Dancing with the Faculty" competition was held April 28^th in the Turley Center Ballroom. Faculty and staff from Pierpont Community & Technical College and Fairmont State University teamed up with students to compete.

Mr. Jeff Miller and his student partner, Jane Ryan, took first place: Technical in Precision as well as first place: Best in Show.

Each spring presents an opportunity to recognize Fairmont State University's outstanding faculty for their efforts throughout the academic year.
