  1. Why is my email address changing?  It is necessary for student email addresses to indicate the institution in which they are enrolled in order to comply with the state policies governing the separation of Pierpont Community and Technical College and Fairmont State University.
  2. Why does "students" have to be added to my email address?  In looking for a solution to the policy mandate, this resource was found to offer the most benefits to our student population.  We understand and apologize for any inconvenience.  We are here to help you with the transition.
  3. Will this change effect faculty and staff?  This will only effect the student population.
  4. Will our email be forwarded to the new address?  Beginning March 16, 2009 your current email will be automatically forwarded to the new address through May 22, 2009.  During this time, your replies will provide your contacts with your new email address.  You should also notify your contacts of the change in your email address.
  5. What if I am a student and a staff member?  You will have multiple accounts.  You will be provided with instructions on how to forward mail from one account to the other if you choose to utilize the faculty or staff account.
  6. Will I lose all of my stored mail? Not necessarily, it will be up to you.  We will have documentation posted here with instructions on how to move your stored email from your Exchange folders to your new mailbox.
  7. Will I lose all of my calendar events?  Not necessarily, it will be up to you.  We will have documentation posted here with instructions on how to move the various components of your Exchange mailbox to your new mailbox.
  8. When will my current email address stop working?  May 22, 2009 is the deadline.  You will no longer be able to access your Exchange mailbox after that date.
  9. What is my UCA?  Your UCA is your unified computer account.  It is your username.  You use this account to sign into FSU Online / Blackboard Vista, Felix, webmail and campus computers.
  10. Will my UCA change?  No. Your UCA will stay the same.
  11. Will the way I log into computers on campus change?  No. You will still use your UCA and password to log into computers.
  12. If I am a student and a staff member will I be losing my staff account?  No. You will continue to have your staff account and you will also have an e-mail account for students. You will receive mail at your primary e-mail address as it is listed in BANNER. Your primary e-mail address, as a staff member and student will remain as your staff account. This means that when messages are sent to the Distribution List *All Students that you will receive these messages in your staff account. However, you will still be receiving all mail messages that are sent directly to your student account. Please see the documentation section of this webpage for directions on how to forward messages from one account to another.
  13. How will I log in to my Facebook account?  Under your Account Settings in Facebook add a new Contact e-mail account. You can use any e-mail account associated to your Facebook account as your username for Facebook and your existing password will work. See the following information found on the Facebook website:
Please note that any of the email addresses associated with your account can be used as login email addresses. You can add or edit your email addresses from the "Settings" tab of the Account page. If you are having trouble accessing an existing account on the site, do not create another account, as this is a violation of our Terms of Use and may delay resolution of the issue.
  14. How do I log into my new e-mail account?  After March 16, 2009, go to the Fairmont State homepage. Use the Quick Links Menu and choose WEBMAIL. Enter your UCA in the UCA field and your password in the password field. Click Log On.  The following page will prompt you to log into either your Institution’s e-mail account or your Old E-mail account. NOTE: This option will only be available until May 22nd, 2009. After this date you will no longer be able to access your Old E-mail. By default your new account will be selected. Click Continue.  You are now logged into Outlook Live.
  15. I am a Faculty/Staff member, will the process for logging into my email account change?  No. You will still go to the Fairmont State Homepage and choose WEBMAIL from the Quick Links Menu and log in with your UCA and password.
  16. I am no longer a student at Fairmont but I still use the e-mail address. Will my address change on the 16th or is it just the current students?   All current and past student e-mail addresses of both Institutions (FSU and Pierpont C&TC) will be changing to uca@students.fairmontstate.edu or uca@students.pierpont.edu. You will need to alert all of your contacts to the change.
  17. When will I be able to access my correct account  if I transfer from Pierpont Community and Technical College to Fairmont State University or vice versa?  You will be able to access the new email account on the night before your first day of class.  At this time it will appear as a second option on the portal page and will be marked as your primary email account.
  18. How do I search for Faculty and Staff addresses? Now that FSU and PC&TC Global Address List has been integrated within the Outlook Live environment, you will be able to search for faculty and staff within your address book.  If you are unsure that the address belongs to a faculty or staff member, here is a way to identify them.  If there is no word students after the @ sign, the address belongs to either a faculty or staff member.
