I chose to come to Fairmont State because it was close to home, had the classes I need to take, and is reasonably priced. As someone who is completely dependent on financial aid, price was very important to me. This school has a very good computer science/ security program.
So far I have been very surprised at the amount of freedom we have here and the engagements we have with our professors.
I have not been in the Honors program very long, and have not attended any events yet, but they seem to be a very fun, engaging group of people.
The best advice I could give to a senior who needs to pick a college is to go out and see the campuses. I went on a few trips to different colleges and Fairmont State really stuck with me. See how the campus is set up, if it is in the city or in a small town or in the middle of nowhere, to each his own, but Fairmont was the right spot for this student.
The Honors courses here at FSU are very different from my high school classes in that we are encouraged to actively participate, not just be expected to absorb things by having it drilled into our heads. Since I am a quiet student, and a bit of a loner, I am not sure how to feel about the engagement, although it is a nice change.
