WELCOME - 

S.T.E.P.  (Special Teachers for the Eastern Panhandle) is a collaborative project between Fairmont State University and RESA VIII. It is specifically designed for RESA VIII teachers working in Special Education settings who are in need of Special Education certification.

These web pages have been developed to provide information regarding the STEP program.  If you can’t locate what you need or require additional information, please contact Dr. Van Dempsey (vdempsey@fairmontstate.edu).

The STEP program features:

  • Tuition discounts;
  • A program designed as multi-categorical;
  • A program that concentrates on the learning and behavioral needs of students;
  • A curriculum based upon the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) standards;
  • Online graduate courses in Special Education and Reading;
  • Optional completion of a Master's Degree; and
  • Program Entry during the Fall, Spring or Summer semesters.
