
On May 18, 2010, Fairmont State GEAR UP hosted its annual GEAR UP Parent of the Year Awards in the Conference Rooms in the Falcon Center of Fairmont State University. Over 90 attendees came out to honor the 21 parents nominated by local GEAR UP high schools.
The evening began with a pre-dinner welcome from Fairmont State University President Dr. Thomas Krepel and Pierpont Community & Technical College President Blair Montgomery.
After dinner, key-note speaker and Vice President for Student Affairs at FSU Michael Belmear spoke of both what his parents had done for him and his own experiences as a parent.

At the conclusion of the speech, Fairmont State GEAR UP Program Director Amie Fazalare recognized each of the winners and called them forward to accept their awards.

2010 GEAR UP Parent of the Year
Finally, before the conclusion of the evening, Liberty High School parent Kim Floyd, was recognized as the 2010 GEAR UP Parent of the Year as selected by a panel of judges based upon her nomination form received from the school. Kim has also been nominated as a national GEAR UP Parent of the Year recipient.
