Fairmont State GEAR UP wants you to "Get A Life!"

Get A Life!

Fairmont State GEAR UP is proud to introduce its new reality based, life experience game “Get A Life!” The game takes place years in the future where students are in their mid-20’s and have made the decision not to go to college.  Now they must take whatever job they can get and somehow pay for their transportation and housing while producing a working budget to take care of the rest of their living expenses (i.e. utilities, fuel, food, etc.).  Using real averages of prices for homes, cars, groceries, and other bills as well as a median salary for the profession they are assigned, students will live on these earnings for one month and learn to create a working budget. Will they be able to hold up to financial stresses and come out ahead for the month?

Feel free to check out the PowerPoint presentation and our videos that demonstrate different aspects of the game below.  Fairmont State GEAR UP has partnered with the WV State Treasurer's Office to make "Get A Life!" part of the Networth program.  The program is part of a statewide middle school counselor curriculum.

"Get A Life!" kits are available for checkout at the GEAR UP office for all Fairmont State GEAR UP high schools.  The game takes approximately an hour and a half to play depending on group size.  The game is a great way to get parents and the community involved.  Additional support for running the game is available from the GEAR UP office.

If you have questions or comments about the program, please feel free to contact Josh Groves at (304) 367-4477 or Josh.Groves@fairmontstate.edu.
