Java Upgrade Required for Latest Version of WebCT Vista

An upgrade of WebCT Vista, which is scheduled for March 12, 2006, will no longer support Java Runtime Environment versions below J2SE v.1.4.2_06.

Note that machines at Fairmont State Library and other on-campus computer labs will be upgraded by the IT staff. 
 
If you use a Mac, visit Apple's support page at http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/java/ for the latest version of Java.

 

Following are instructions for downloading and running the Microsoft Windows version of the online installer program, which will assure that your Java will work with the latest version of WebCT Vista.   You must have administrative rights on your PC in order to accomplish this upgrade.

  1. Click the following link to the installer: /facstaffresources/ltc/j2re-1_4_2_09-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe
  2. When prompted, select "Open" or "Run" as your download choice
  3. The installer will prompt you to ACCEPT the license agreement – Select “I accept the terms . . .” option;
  4. “Typical” installation option should be selected by default – Click “Next;”
  5. After installation is complete, click “FINISH;”
  6. Then, click “RESTART.”

!!! INSTALLATION IS NOW COMPLETE !!!

Important:  After you install Java, an automatic update message may prompt you that a more recent update is available for download.  DO NOT run the automatic update!   To stop this update message, you can locate the Java Plug-in in you Control Panel, click the "Update" tab, uncheck the box next to "Check for Updates Automatically," and click the Apply button.
