WebCT Vista Update - June 9, 2005

I am happy to inform you that your fall course space is now available in WebCT Vista.

To access your classes:

  1. Go to:  http://vista.fairmontstate.edu
  2. Select Fairmont State
  3. Login using your UCA and password.
  4. You will see a list of your fall and summer classes (you do not need to do anything with your summer classes)

Here are a few things you should know:

  1. VISTA is not term-based, like campus edition.  Therefore, you will not see course IDs or courses displayed by term.  Rather, the term is part of the course title.
  2. The first time that you select your course you will be asked to assign a template.  Please assign the template that includes the words “master template” and NOT the blank template.  If you have already accessed your class and accidentally assigned the blank template, please send an email to ltc@fairmontstate.edu indicating the course and your UCA, and we will apply the correct template.
  3. Vista is now integrated with BANNER.  Therefore, you will not have to add your own students.  Approximately one week before classes begin we will "turn on events," which will populate your courses.  Turning on events will also handle the assigning of faculty to courses that were originally assigned to "staff."  There are some issues regarding events:
    • Students who drop your class through BANNER are automatically denied access in VISTA.  They are not deleted from your class but rather denied access.
    • You cannot manually add or delete students in VISTA.  Everything is taken care of through integration.
    • You cannot give someone "Shared Designer Access" in VISTA.  If you are actually team teaching a class, all instructors must be added as instructors in Banner.  This is done through the Registrar’s office.  If you are listed as an instructor for a course in BANNER, you will automatically be assigned as section instructor in Vista.

There are still a few slots left in the July and August boot camps for those of you who are or will be teaching online courses.  I will also be conducting some orientation sessions once classes resume in the fall.  There are also several faculty mentors who have been trained in VISTA to help you get ready for the fall semester.  A list of mentors can be found at:  /facstaffresources/ltc/mentoring/default.asp

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

      THANK YOU!
