Online Course Development (OCD) Grant Program

Fairmont State University and Fairmont State Community and Technical College seek grant proposals to design and develop new online classes as part of our ongoing commitment to increase the number, quality, and variety of courses available to our students.

The Online Course Development Grant Program provides funding to faculty design and teach a new online courses or for the conversion of existing traditional baccalaureate or community college credit classes to an online format.  Grants are available for the development of:

  • Online classes are ones that meet best practices for online learning and require student interaction through discussions and group work.  Enrollments in online courses are typically limited to 20-25 participants.
  • Online self-paced classes, while still having target dates for assignments and assessments, do not have discussions or group work.  Enrollments in online self-paced classes are substantially greater:  50 or more students.

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2008 school year. The deadline for applications is April 18, 2008 at 4:00. Awards will be announced on Wed. May 7, 2008.

Projects are funded at $1,000 per credit hour.

Proposals May:
  • Adapt online teaching and learning approaches to existing courses
  • Develop online courses from existing Blackboard Vista enhanced courses
  • Generate new curriculum for online delivery (assuming approval for curriculum has been obtained through appropriate process)
