Children’s Classes Galore at Duck Soup!!!
Once again, Community Education has teamed up with Fairmont’s Duck Soup toy store, to offer a summer-long series of fun! We are putting the finishing touches on daytime, evening, and weekend classes designed to inspire your child’s imagination and creativity (and sometimes – yours too!). We’re adding new classes all the time so check back frequently.

ACT Test Preparation
High School Juniors and Seniors: don’t let the ACT test intimidate you! This course is designed to teach the reading, English, science, math and writing skills you will need to do well on your ACT test. Test-taking skills will be emphasized. Whether you are trying to achieve the PROMISE Scholarship, applying for competitive college programs, or to maximize your potential and opportunities – this course is a must. Register for with this proven course featuring Kaplan materials and certified instructors. Cost includes all books & materials. First class session will include an exam, please bring #2 pencils and calculator. Enrollment is limited and pre-registration is required. *First Class is on SATURDAY, June 14, 8am-noon (with 3 additional Saturdays – dates to be announced).

We Sign Together (6 months – 5 years)
You and your child will have fun as your youngster learns to communicate with basic sign language. You will do fun activities, sign from books, and do songs while you are learning to use sign language – together! Registration covers one adult and one child.

Scrapbooking for Kids
This class is geared towards getting youngsters involved in the hobby of scrapbooking. Targeted for 8-12 year olds, this class will teach what tools and supplies are needed to get started. Participants will start a Summer-themed scrapbook they can add to all summer. Pre-registration is required. All materials are provided.

Youth Drawing Workshop
This one-week workshop is designed to introduce beginning techniques in drawing. Students will gain experience in quick gesture sketches, finished still-life renditions in graphite, colored pencil and mixed media, and end with creative interpretations. Students will need to bring the following supplies to the first class: one sketch book, 11 in. X 14 in. or larger; graphite pencils; at least 3 colored pencils; and an eraser. Any other supplies needed for the class will be furnished by the instructor. Youth 12 and older welcome.

Day at the Fort (Grades 1 – 4)
Spend the day inside Prickett’s Fort and learn about what life was like for settlers in 1774. Students will get to work hands-on with the fort interpreters to make baskets, hand dip candles and other activities that they would have experienced as early pioneers. Kids have fun learning about farm animals and life in the frontier militia. Enjoy a hike through the park while learning about the birds, animals and plants of the 18th century. Lunch provided.

High School Themed Scrapbooks
Geared for teens, this class will teach how to preserve your high school photos, memories and memorabilia by showcasing your school colors and mascot. You’ll also learn ways to record the extracurricular activities that you participate in. Bring the album of your choice – everything else will be provided.

Kindermusik
Come enjoy our one-room schoolhouse approach to music!!! With older children ready to show the little ones how it's done and the younger ones eager to learn, Family Time becomes a multi-layered learning environment. Each week, our Kindermusik Educator will introduce basic musical concepts and then give you the instruments, and the opportunity to put those concepts into play. In this special place for musical, social and emotional learning, your children will strengthen their ties with each other and with you! Class is designed for parent(s) and children 6 months to 5 years.

Imagination Vacation – Youth Arts Camp (4 to 10 years)
Back by popular demand! Your child will enjoy this fine arts based, fast-paced trip around the world. From Visual Arts, including sculpting, painting, drawing, and photography; to the Performing Arts featuring music, dance and theatre; your child will learn about the world of art through a truly unique and rewarding experience. A fun filled program and art exhibit will be held on the last day of camp! (Parents need to pack a sack lunch.)
