Biography:

Mahmood Hossain is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Fairmont State University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Applied Physics and Electronics and a master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh. He taught Computer Science for three years in Bangladesh before moving to Mississippi State University where he earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science. Besides working towards his Ph.D., Hossain also worked as a full-time instructor of Computer Science at Mississippi State University for six years. During his nine years of college teaching, he has taught a wide variety of courses including database systems, data mining, artificial intelligence, client/server programming, introductory and advanced programming classes in C/C++/Java/VB, data structures and algorithms, discrete structures, automata theory, operating systems, computer architecture, digital systems and computer fundamentals. He has also been actively involved in advising. Hossain’s research has revolved around artificial intelligence, data mining and database systems. He has worked on AI search algorithms, supervised machine learning, deductive databases, similarity of objects in complex databases, association mining and clustering. For his M.S. project at MSU, he worked on incorporating an adaptive learning module into an intrusion detection system to enable the IDS to cope with changing system behavior. His Ph.D. research focused on clustering multiple heterogeneous datasets. The application domain for this research was document clustering. He is currently exploring innovative applications of data mining techniques in different areas, particularly in bioinformatics. He has authored a number of peer-reviewed journal and conference papers.
