This up-on-your-feet, interactive, and fun class is designed to introduce participants to a variety of improvisational theatre games and ways to work on monologues and scenes. Participants will learn the basic rules of improvisation and techniques for bringing the scripted word to life. The class includes brief instruction on the basics of directing. In this course, designed for the writer who is beginning to explore the world of playwriting, participants will create characters, scenarios, and dialogues that will then be the basis for a one-act play. Character, setting, plot, structure, creating authentic, stageworthy dialogue, and editing and revision techniques will all be explored through handouts, writing exercises, and structured peer critique by the instructor and other participants. This CPR and First Aid training is an appropriate class for health care professionals, day care providers, and community members. Students will learn the recommended cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques and how to provide appropriate, immediate care that may be necessary in case of an accident or emergency. After completion of the class, students will be certified or re-certified in CPR & First Aid for two years. |

| In an age of instant communication — and one in which large newspapers are struggling — why do small-town newspapers continue to be relevant? A daily newspaper editor with nearly 35 years in small-town newsrooms leads a discussion on the importance of a newspaper to a community. In this three-part series students will learn how many editors make decisions and how those decisions affect a community. Practical exercises will include tips on writing news releases, letters to the editor and an examination of what makes some news stories more than headlines to a local community. |

Pierpont Community & Technical College is pleased to announce that you can now learn to fly through our Community Education program. This program is delivered at the NAEC (Benedum Airport), by the same instructors as our academic professional flight training. If you have dreamed of flying the skies, this is your chance! Total cost for flight training will vary according to the level of certification the individual desires, the type of plane required for that certification, the type of instruction required for that certification, and the actual instruction time required. There is a one-time registration fee of $100 per certification.
