Biography:
I received an A.B. and an M.S. in mathematics from West Virginia University. I took enough education hours to be certified to teach in the public schools. I taught high school mathematics for five years before resigning to raise children. I was an adjunct instructor at Fairmont State for several years before I returned to teaching full time. I received a doctorate in mathematics education from West Virginia University in 1997. My research studied attitudes and abilities of developmental algebra students in problem solving. Presently, I oversee the mathematics education program at Fairmont State University. Currently, a shortage of public school math teachers is a cause of concern in every state. At Fairmont, we are trying to remedy this need by training highly qualified teachers.
What have you learned while teaching at Fairmont State?:
I have learned to appreciate the struggles of many of my students who need to work to support themselves while getting an undergraduate education.

Students like my enthusiasm for mathematics.
