OVERVIEW OF THE SPEECH COMMUNICATION PROGRAM
The Department of Communication and Theatre Arts offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communication. Required courses introduce the student to the various special areas of speech as an academic discipline: interpersonal, organizational and group communication, rhetoric, oratory, and debate. This is a liberal arts degree which can be paired with any minor desired by the student. The Department also provides a minor for the student with an interest in speech communication. The program of study provides a balance among the various areas of academic speech studies.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR SPEECH COMMUNICATION MAJORS and MINORS
Students completing the Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communication will be able to seek employment in business, industry or government. Fairmont State students will also be competent to compete with graduates of most colleges for graduate studies in speech communication. The minor in speech communication is a complement to the student’s major field of study and allows the student to present themselves to a potential employer as a liberally educated individual.
