ACADEMIC ALLIANCE

The Academic Alliance is a collaboration between faculty from high schools and the College of Science and Technology at Fairmont State University, with the goal of enhancing student success in the sciences, math and technology.  The Alliance was initiated in the spring of 2006, with a series of events involving a presentation by James Maxey of American College Testing services and subsequent brainstorming discussions between high school and university faculty members.

Forty-five teachers from seven counties attended the events, including representatives from North Marion, Fairmont Senior, East Fairmont, South Harrison, Bridgeport, Lincoln, Valley, Hundred, University, Morgantown, Elkins, Preston, and Grafton High Schools as well as the  Wetzel County Board of Education.

Notes from the April sessions are now posted!

A frequently requested piece of information from high school teachers was the ACT score prerequisite requirements for entry into our introductory science and math courses, and those can be found by clicking the link below.  If the prerequisite ACT score below has not been met, additional college course(s) must be taken to satisfy the prerequisite.   If the ACT Math score is less than 19, the COMPASS test (online, free test administered by Fairmont State) is required to determine what developmental math courses are necessary.
