What is Welcome Weekend?

Welcome Weekend is the four-day fall orientation program designed for all new students living on and off campus or transferring in to Fairmont State.  Welcome Weekend includes a variety of events to help you become acclimated to campus, succeed at Fairmont State and meet your fellow students.  Students will have the opportunity to participate in a kick-off to your first year experience session, get your class t-shirt and photo, meet the community at the Welcome Home Campus Picnic, and numerous interactive activities including Back to School Bash, Neon Up All Night, and attending the West Virginia Blackbears baseball game.

Why Should New Students Participate in Welcome Weekend?

Coming to college is a transition, and you will need some time to adjust. We know that students who attend Welcome Weekend are more confident when they start classes because they have had time to meet friends, know the expectations regarding academics, and have the campus resources needed to feel settled.

  • You will meet new people and interact with student organizations.
  • You’ll go more in-depth with your Academic major and meet the faculty that you'll soon be seeing in the classroom.
  • During Welcome Weekend, we will introduce you to campus policies and procedures, inform you of office locations, and fill you in on the many services available on campus that can help you succeed.

FYI, you will need your ID card during Welcome Weekend! If you didn’t receive one at Orientation, there will be time to get it before Welcome Weekend kicks off.
