If your major is Bachelors Undeclared, your advisor will be listed as “Advising Center” on Felix. You can meet with one of our advisors in the Office of Exploratory Advising. If you have declared a major, a faculty member in your major will be your advisor. Contact the staff in the department of your major to find your advisor. (see Deptal Contacts in Self Registration Guide)
Students who are listed as Bachelor’s Undeclared are either exploring multiple majors or pursuing acceptance into the Nursing program. Undeclared students are also called “Undecided” or “Exploratory” students.
Exploratory advisors understand the Nursing admissions criteria and application process. They partner with Nursing Intended students to help create academic plans.
You can declare your major by filling out a “Major Change Form” in Student Enrollment Services, on the 3rd floor of the Turley Student Services Center. You will be assigned a new advisor in the department of your new major.
Your first step is to schedule an appointment to meet with your advisor. *If you are a newly admitted student, contact the Office of Orientation at 304-367-4010 or 1-800-641-5678 to schedule an Orientation.
At your appointment, your academic advisor will answer any of your questions and/or concerns about your college experience, explore possible majors with you, assist you in developing a list of potential classes for next semester, connect you to other offices, provide you with instructions for registration and your registration PIN code.
The Office of Exploratory Advising often recommends several resources for major exploration. You can begin by completing both of these free surveys: Focus 2 and www.16Personalities.com. You can meet with us to discuss your results. You can review the majors offered at Fairmont State University by looking through the Academic Catalog.
Once you have a list of potential majors, you can seek out job shadowing experiences.
