Theatre and Acting Classes

KidProv!

Tuesdays (beginning September 4th)

3rd-8th graders

Kid Prov is for kids 3rd grade through 8th exploring the fun and challenges of improv. Through various games and techniques, children will learn the basics of improv and how it can be fully utilized as actors. Together an ensemble improv team will be formed consisting of past and new students.  The overall goal is to have an ongoing team to build and perform in various forms, including Academy of the Arts recitals.

Get Your Creepy On: Improvisational Ghost Tales

9 weeks 

Tuesdays 5:30-6:30 (beginning September 4th)

4th-6th graders

This class will be held at the Folk Life Center 

$120- ($100 is paid to the FSU Foundation please include in the memo line Folk Life Center 

$20 is paid to FSU Academy for the Arts)

Instructor- Dr. Fran Kirk 

In this class, students will create improvised scenes using the stories from Coffin Hollow, The Tell-Tale Lilac Bush, and other local ghost lore.  In the process, they will learn about acting, improvisation, and story theatre.  The culmination of the class will be a short story theatre performance. This class will conclude in an informal story theatre performance on Tuesday, October 30th time TBA at the Folk Life Center on the campus of FSU!

 

Let's Act! 

Thursdays

Acting class that explores the various aspects of acting and theatre.  Students will learn various techniques used for warm ups, auditions, and mostly on acting.  'Let's Act' is based off the principal of 'acting is believing' and inspired by a theatre game.   An overall goal of a short play/sketch will be presented.

 

Puppetry – Create & Tell – Make Your Own Story!

Ages: 6-10 years old

Price: $150 & $20 for course materials

Time: 8 Weeks, 9/6-10/25

Have you ever wanted to create your own story but you didn’t know how? Join us as we tackle storytelling with puppetry in a fun and interactive experience! We will be learning about puppetry and all of its forms, while crafting different puppets. As a group we will create a story with puppets that will be performed at the end of the class term! (All materials will be provided by the instructor)

 

Puppetry – Create & Tell – Childhood Favorites!
Ages: 8-12 years old
Price: $150 & $20 for course materials
Time: 8 Weeks, 9/4-10/23
Tuesdays 4:30-5:30pm

Join us as we learn about different types of puppetry and storytelling! We will be bringing in our favorite childhood books, and turning them into performance ready pieces with puppetry. Create and take home all arts and crafts! At the end of the class term, join us for a final performance as we bring to life our favorite stories! (All materials will be provided by the instructor)

 

Creative Drama – Let’s Adventure to Where the Wild Things Are!

Ages: 3-5 years old

Price: $65

Time: 3 Weeks, 9/13-9/27

Thursdays 4:30pm – 5:30pm

Join us as we look at childhood favorite Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak! We’ll follow Max as he travels from his bedroom to the land of Wild Things! We will explore with sights, sound, and movement as we follow along with this popular story!

 

The Actor’s Workshop

$120 (or $270 for both Actors Workshop & Broadway Bound)

Develop your stage acting and audition skills in a fun and supportive environment through a variety of individual and ensemble exercises, including monologues, scenes, drama games, and devising. At the end of the term, students will have the opportunity to perform in a showcase along with the Musical Theatre students.

 

Creative Drama – Let’s Put on a Show!

Ages: 8-10 years old

Price: $150

Time: 8 Weeks, 9/18-11/6

Tuesdays 5:30pm-6:30pm

Are you interested in theatre and acting, but you’re not sure how to get your foot in the door? Well join us as we learn about theatre games, audition pieces, and crafting while also creating our own script! We will learn about the steps it takes to get from script to stage in a fun environment!

At the end of the term, students will have the opportunity to perform in a showcase along with the Actor’s Workshop students.

 

Broadway Bound: Acting for Musical Theatre

$180 (or $270 for both Actors Workshop & Broadway Bound)

College Audition Prep

Are you thinking of studying acting or musical theatre after high school? Feeling a little overwhelmed by the idea of college applications? In this workshop, we will demystify the whole process: You’ll learn what types of training are available, how to tackle college auditions with confidence, and you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and to test your audition pieces!

 

Creative Drama – Dream Up, Act Up!
