Three incoming Fairmont State University freshmen have been selected as the recipients of Fairmont State’s premier academic scholarship, the Charles J. McClain Presidential Scholarship. Sophie Stuart from Jefferson High School (Charles town, W.VA), Hailey Jordan from Fairmont Senior High School (Fairmont, W.VA) and Jayden Sharps from Scott High School (Madison, W.VA) are this year’s Presidential Scholars and will be joining the campus community this fall.

Fairmont State University Healthcare Management student Bryce McCoy has been accepted into WVU Medicine’s competitive Health Informatics internship. The junior and Ravenswood, West Virginia native is set to begin her internship this May working with the Clinical Application and Software training team.

Over 1,000 Fairmont State University students have been honored for their academic achievements throughout the fall 2022 semester.  

Fairmont State University has released the President’s List and the Dean’s List to recognize high-achieving students for their academic distinction. Full-time students who earned a 3.4 or better grade point average are named to the Dean’s List. Full-time students achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average are named to the President’s List.

 The results from the 2022 audit were highlighted by the University’s independent auditing firm, Suttle and Stalnaker, during Thursday’s Board of Governors meeting. The findings presented demonstrated the University concluded its fiscal year in strong financial standing for the fifth consecutive year.

Fairmont State University will honor graduates during the University’s 153rd Fall Commencement this Saturday, November 19 in the Feaster Center. The 10 a.m. ceremony will recognize the College of Business & Aviation and the College of Liberal Arts. At 2 p.m. graduates from the Colleges of Education, Health & Human Performance, Nursing, and Science and Technology will have their degrees conferred, in addition to Regents Bachelor of Arts graduates.

For the fourth year in a row, Fairmont State University embarked on its annual Falcon Day of Giving on Thursday, October 27. During this 24-hour fundraising marathon, 891 alumni and friends joined together to raise more than $375,000 supporting 44 colleges and programs throughout campus. During this year’s Day of Giving, donors provided nearly $109,000 for scholarships, and $174,000 for athletic programs.

Fairmont State has begun its annual search for the best and brightest West Virginians in the class of 2023. The Charles J. McClain Scholarship is the University’s most competitive scholarship program and awards three McClain Scholars tuition and fees, room and board for on-campus students, and a $500 per semester book scholarship for the on-campus Bound for Success Bookstore.

The annual campaign’s goal is to expand the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission’s (WVHEPC) efforts to raise the number of students pursuing postsecondary education.

Fairmont State University will continue the annual SOAR Award ceremony events to provide incoming first-time freshmen with a $2,000 scholarship. Fairmont State University began the SOAR Awards in 2018 to reduce educational costs as an institutional commitment to student success and accomplishment.
