FSU Hosts State Science and Engineering Fair

The West Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair will take place Saturday, March 22, at Fairmont State University. The event is sponsored by the Fairmont State University College of Science and Technology and the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission’s Division of Science and Research.

Students in grades nine through 12 are eligible to enter. Projects must be in one of the following areas: Animal Sciences, Behavioral and Social Sciences; Biochemistry; Cellular and Molecular Biology; Chemistry; Computer Science; Earth and Planetary Science; Engineering: Electrical and Mechanical; Engineering: Materials and Bioengineering; Energy and Transportation; Environmental Management; Environmental Sciences; Mathematical Sciences; Microbiology; Physics and Astronomy; Plant Sciences.

One grand-prize winner will be selected to advance to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles on May 11 through 16, 2014. This will include airfare, ground transportation and lodging for the participant and one chaperone. The cost of display shipping also will be covered.

Set-up will take place today, March 21, between 3 and 5 p.m. The projects will be available for public viewing between 5 and 7 p.m. today, March 21. Judging will take place on Saturday, March 22, between 9 and 11:30 a.m.
