Fairmont State to host Hardway Haunt for second year

Oct 16, 2019

For the second year in a row, Fairmont State University will be hosting the Hardway Haunt as part of the campaign to help raise money for the United Way of Marion and Taylor Counties from 6-8 p.m. on October 30th.

This family friendly event will include trick-or-treating, $1 carnival games, raffles and more on the first floor of Hardway Hall. Student organizations will decorate doors and lockers, people will be able to donate money to their favorite one.

“The first Hardway Haunt was held last fall and was a successful event. There was a great turnout of people of all ages and approximately $500 was raised for the United Way,” Amy Snively, Academic Coach for the Accessibility Services Office at Fairmont State and co-chair of the United Way campaign, said. “Many of the groups and individuals who helped the event be successful last year have volunteered again this year.”

People can expect free trick-or-treating and light refreshments as well as the chance to see the creativity of students and employees. Individuals can purchase tickets to participate in carnival activities and vote for their favorite decorations.

“The United Way of Marion and Taylor Counties helps support 26 local health and human service agencies, and works toward long-lasting solutions - not short-term assistance. Participating in Fairmont State University’s United Way campaign is a powerful way for the Fairmont State community to come together and show that we are committed to improving the quality of life for people living and working in Marion and Taylor counties,” Snively said. “Last year, contributions from Fairmont State University helped serve over 24,600 individuals, some of whom include members of our campus community.”

Snively said it’s important to remember that every dollar raised here, stays here. All the proceeds of this event will go to the United Way of Marion and Taylor Counties.
