Active shooter response training coming to Fairmont

Oct 07, 2019

Fairmont State University and the ALICE Training Institute have teamed up to bring ALICE Instructor Certification Training to Fairmont, West Virginia, on December 11-12, 2019. The course will be held at in the Turley Center on Fairmont State’s campus.

ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate and is a valuable strategy for people in any career. The two-day Instructor Certification course is designed to teach proactive option-based strategies to increase survivability in a violent critical incident.

“Active shooter incidents are often unpredictable and evolve quickly. In the midst of the chaos, anyone can play an integral role in mitigating the impacts of an active shooter incident. Fairmont State University is pleased to offer training through the ALICE program,” Matt Swain, Fairmont Chief of Police, said. “At Fairmont State University we aim to be proactive and offer training to not only our Law Enforcement Officers, faculty, staff, and students, but we also want to train with our local first responders.  You can never be too prepared.”

The ALICE strategies empower individuals to participate in their own survival in the gap between when a violent situation begins and when law enforcement arrives. Fairmont State is proud to be able to provide this vital training on our campus.

“I am the ALICE program trainer here on campus. The message we try to get across to students, faculty and staff alike is that in the gap between the 911 call and when law enforcement arrives, they themselves are the biggest part of their own survival in any active shooter situation,” Lt. John Nigh, ALICE Program Trainer, said. “By taking the tools we give them in our classes they can be better equipped to make the kinds of decisions necessary to keep themselves and others alive in situations involving a violent intruder.”

Completing the ALICE Certification Instructor course provides individuals with certification in ALICE proactive strategies and allows them the opportunity to bring those same strategies back to their organization. Additionally, registrants will gain access to exclusive ALICE resources.

The training also enables those who complete it to have the knowledge and resources to train others throughout their communities. The cost of the training is $695.

About ALICE Training Institute

ALICE training is the original options-based response program that is designed to replace an inadequate lockdown-only response plan. ALICE addresses the fallacies of a one-size-fits-all response plan by explaining the truths and realities of Violent Critical Incidents. The reality is that extremely tragic outcomes in these events can be mitigated. They are very much survivable. Through training and empowerment, citizens can apply the ALICE proactive strategies and improve chances of survival in any environment where they may find themselves confronted by an active shooter or violent intruder. ALICE strategies are now also mirrored and recommended by many Federal and State official guidelines. For More Information about ALICE Training Institute Contact us at press@alicetraining.com.
