Uncommon and remarkable lives have been the legacy of Fairmont State University for over 150 years. For decades, one such life had been forgotten to history but during this year’s Commencement, the Falcon Family celebrated the rediscovery of a pioneering Fairmont State president and the first female president of a state school in the history of the State of West Virginia and in the US—Margaret Elizabeth Dickey. 

Mon Health Medical Center Foundation Provides $200,000 Investment in Nursing Education

The Mon Health Medical Center Foundation is proud to present a two-year investment of $200,000 to expand Fairmont State University’s capacity for nursing education. Through this investment, Fairmont State University will be able to hire additional faculty that in turn will allow more students to be trained in the field of nursing.   

Fairmont State Chief of Police recognized for life-saving act

Fairmont State University’s Chief of Police Matt Swain was given the Heroism Award by the Marion County Rescue Squad at the Night of Recognition. 

Squad administrator Michael Angelucci said Chief Swain was given the award for his life-saving act in the spring. 

Fairmont State graduates more than 130 students during Winter Commencement

More than 130 students participated in the first winter Commencement ceremony for Fairmont State University in five years on Saturday in the Feaster Center. 

Dr. Jack Kirby, retired Fairmont State Associate Provost, served as the Commencement speaker. Alyssa Welling was the student speaker.

Fairmont State donates a record $31,525 through United Way campaign

Fairmont State University has raised a record $31,525 through the annual United Way Campaign, which wrapped up Nov. 9. This amount is the largest campaign in Fairmont State’s 39-year campaign history.

The Falcon Family Christmas Tree Lighting was held on Thursday in the Falcon Center to bring together students, faculty, staff and the community to kick-off the holiday season. 

President Dr. Mirta M. Martin said while they have put up a tree and had a lighting in the past, this is the first year it’s been a big event. She loves Christmas and this time of year, so she wanted to share that with the University and community. 

Fairmont State University and the Wesley Foundation work together to fight student hunger

For well over a decade, the Wesley Foundation has been serving one hot, homemade meal to students each week. Now Fairmont State University has teamed up with Aladdin Food Services to help the Wesley Foundation combat hunger on Fairmont State’s campus.
