The Fairmont State University School of Nursing has received $100,000 from grants and private funders to support the purchase of an advanced pediatric patient simulator that will provide its students with enhanced learning opportunities and realistic real-world experiences.

Over 175 students graduate at Winter Commencement

Over 175 students walked during the Winter Commencement ceremony for Fairmont State University that took place on Saturday in the Feaster Center. 

Mike Ross, former West Virginia senator and president of Ross and Wharton Gas Company, served as the commencement speaker. 

“I want you to take something with you, work hard for what you want and remember that attitude is important,” he said. “Attitude is more important than facts, more important than what people say.” 

Fairmont State University continues excellence in financial position

During today’s Board of Governors meeting, Suttle and Stalnaker, the institution’s independent auditing firm, presented the results of the 2019 audit, showing the University has finished the 2019 fiscal year in a strong financial position. This is a continuance of last year’s focus on cost saving/containment and strategic intiatives implemented by the administration in January of 2018.

During the inaugural Fairmont State University Day of Giving more than 370 donors helped to raise nearly $200,000 setting a record for the most gifts the University has ever received in one day. 

“We’re so proud of the Fairmont State University community of alumni and friends who came together to show the power of philanthropy,” Julie R. Cryser, president of the Fairmont State Foundation, said. The Foundation raises money on Fairmont State University’s behalf.

1981 Fairmont State alumnus to honor son with endowed scholarship

Barry Baisden, 1981 Fairmont State University graduate with a degree in Occupational Safety, recently funded the Sam Baisden Scholarship in Occupational Safety to honor his son, who died in a tragic accident in 2018. 

Baisden went on to a successful career with ExxonMobil, retiring in 2017 as the refining safety, security, health and environment manager.

Homecoming 2019 Parade to feature new route
