Fairmont State University’s Amie Fazalare, Director of Legacy Engagement/Academic Success Coordinator, was selected as an Outstanding New Advisor Certificate of Merit recipient as part of the 2020 Global Awards Program for Academic Advising from NACADA: The Global Academic Advising. This award is presented to advisors who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students and who have served as a professional advisor for three or fewer years.

As West Virginia continues its phased reopening and the COVID-19 new positive test numbers for Marion County continues to be zero, Fairmont State University has re-envisioned their academic calendar to keep students safe while still attending face-to-face classes on the campus that they love.

Two Fairmont State alumni will continue to support a scholarship for football players over the next five years. 

Fairmont State University has announced it will hold a virtual commencement on Saturday, May 9 to celebrate graduating students. In-person ceremonies have tentatively been rescheduled for August 8. 

Since the imminent arrival of COVID-19 to the Mountain State, Fairmont State University has continued to work with the Marion County Health Department and state health officials, in addition to monitoring CDC guidelines in order to make decisions that will keep the Falcon Family safe. 

Monday, the Governor’s Stay at Home order expired and a new Safer at Home Order began. With this, it is now time to look to the future and begin planning to bring our Falcon Family home.

Fairmont State University announced to impacted students on Monday, that those students who have an on-campus lease or meal plan for the Spring 2020 semester will be receiving approximately 40% in refunds. 

The global COVID-19 pandemic will be the defining event of our lifetime.  It has affected students around the nation, and at Fairmont State University.  While students are drawn to Fairmont State for its affordable tuition and distinctive academic programs, choosing to pursue a college degree is still a significant investment for West Virginia families.  

Continuing the tradition, three West Virginia high school seniors have been named as recipients of Fairmont State University's premier academic scholarship, the Charles J. McClain Presidential Scholarship.

The following students have been selected as 2020 scholarship winners:

A 1988 Fairmont State graduate honored his former advisor, professor, and mentor by establishing the Gary K. Bennett Scholarship for students who demonstrate outstanding promise in the field of accounting.

Fairmont State University President Mirta Martin delivered gowns, masks and gloves to Mon Health to help with the COVID-19 pandemic. Fairmont State joins other colleges and universities across West Virginia and the country in supplying the healthcare workers with personal protective equipment (ppe) during the outbreak.
