Two Fairmont State University faculty members were recognized at the annual Faculty Award Ceremony earlier this year as sabbatical award recipients, which provides the opportunity to engage in research, writing, study or any other activity to improve instruction.

Fairmont State students spend summer doing all sorts of things from jobs to vacations.  Kira N. Guier, an honors student from Kearneysville, West Virginia, studied this summer at The Washington Center and interned at DC127.

Kira, a junior, is double majoring in criminal justice and history.

Meghan B. Phillips, Class of 2006, supervised a union election in Fairmont on Wednesday, August 9.

It’s been a big year for Emily Aman. Not only did the 14-year-old make the transition from middle school to high school, but she also just finished her first semester at Fairmont State University.

Three Fairmont State University senior History majors attended the national Phi Alpha Theta Biennial Conference in Orlando on Jan. 6-10 and presented academic papers.

“We’ve had students present at some of the smaller regional conferences in the past, but this was the first time we’ve had students present at the national conference,” said Dr. Robin Payne, Assistant Professor of History and faculty advisor for the FSU Phi Alpha Theta chapter.

Fairmont State University students excelled at the recent Appalachian Regional Model Arab League (ARMAL) competition at Hollins University in Roanoke, Va.

Students from Fairmont State University will be in the Low Countries of Western Europe as part of the annual International Study/Travel course from Monday through Saturday, March 10-17.

The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center on the shared main campus of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College will host a birthday celebration in honor of Francis H. Pierpont, “The Father of West Virginia.” Students, faculty and staff are invited to the Folklife Center for birthday cake and coffee from 9:30-10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

A team of Fairmont State University students traveled to Washington, D.C., earlier this month to present their research on economic sustainability in Helvetia, W.Va., through heritage tourism as part of the 2011 ARC Appalachian Teaching Project.
