Collaboration continues beyond Fulbright Scholar’s placement at Fairmont State

Earlier this year, Fairmont State University welcomed its first Fulbright Scholar in more than two decades.

Fulbright Scholar, Alexander Lyapin, from the Siberian Federal University in Krasnoyarsk, Russia visited the University for nine months while teaching calculus and programming courses, conducting research and publishing articles alongside his host through the Fulbright Program, Fairmont State Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Tom Cuchta.

Fairmont Family Honors Stephen Guentert with Endowed Scholarship

A Fairmont family has pledged $25,000 for the creation of a new scholarship at Fairmont State University in memory of Stephen Guentert, a Fairmont State alumnus who passed away in February of 2021. The Stephen L. Guentert Memorial Endowed Scholarship will provide financial support for computer science and cybersecurity students in the College of Science and Technology.

Fairmont State University Science and Technology Scholarship Created in Honor of Eric W. Underwood

Sidney and Judith Underwood of Parkersburg, West Virginia have pledged $27,000 to create a scholarship in memory of their son Eric, who passed away in July of 2020.

“The generous gift from the Underwoods is greatly appreciated. Their kind remembrance of their son will have a lasting benefit to Fairmont State students,” said Fairmont State Foundation President, Gary K. Bennett.

Fairmont State University Named in 2021 Trade College Search Rankings

Trade College Search has named Fairmont State University as one of the top schools in the country through its most recent ranking analysis. Although Fairmont State is not a technical or trade school, Trade Colleges recognizes several of the University’s majors as top ranking within the State of West Virginia.

The Fairmont State University College of Science and Technology has announced it will introduce a new master’s degree in Engineering Management to meet the growing demand for skills in management positions within business, engineering and industry settings. The Master of Science Degree in Engineering Management (MSET) is a 30-credit hour, online graduate program designed to provide a blend of advanced engineering concepts and strategies to improve operational performance.

VEX State Tournaments to be held at Fairmont State University

Fairmont State University’s College of Science and Technology with the NASA’s Independent Verification & Validation (IV&V) Program Education Resource Center (ERC), will host a series of VEX Robotics tournaments for elementary through college students at the Falcon Center. Events will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 6-8, 2020.

The 45th Annual West Virginia State Mathematics Field Day was held on April 26-27, 2019 at Fairmont State University in Fairmont, WV.  Operated and organized by the West Virginia State Mathematics Field Day Organization, the event was sponsored in part by the NASA West Virginia Space Grant Consortium and the West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Many of the awards and scholarships presented at the banquet were made possible through gifts to the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc.
