Fairmont State University Criminal Justice students recently took top honors at the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences/Alpha Phi Sigma National Conference in Kansas City, Mo. In fact, Fairmont State will be known as the Alpha Phi Sigma National Office for the next two years because three FSU students won the national election for the presidential slate of the organization and will serve a two-year term as its national officers.

Fairmont State University Criminal Justice students recently took top honors at the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences/Alpha Phi Sigma National Conference in Denver. In fact, they consistently perform so well in the national crime scene competition that there is a “Fairmont rule.”

Fairmont State University Criminal Justice students recently took top honors at the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences/Alpha Phi Sigma National Conference in Philadelphia. Two FSU students also earned individual honors.

Nicole Allison of New Cumberland won first place in the Criminal Justice General Knowledge Exam and first place in the Special Topics/Victimology Exam. Each first came with a $500 prize.

Students and Faculty Participate in Make Marion County Shine

Fairmont State University was proud to participate in the Make Marion County Shine initiative and partner with Main Street Fairmont with a clean-up of Locust Avenue on Saturday, April 6. The team of 18 students, faculty, staff and community members picked up 48 bags of trash in four hours. Participating students represented the Occupational Safety program, Alpha Phi Sigma (Criminal Justice Honor Society), S.T.A.N.D., Tau Kappa Epsilon and Student Government.

Items Being Collected for New Campus Food Bank

Fans of the Fighting Falcons are asked to bring non-perishable food items to the first home football game on Saturday, Sept. 22, to support a new campus food bank called The Nest. Community members who bring a food item will receive free admission to the game, courtesy of the FSU Department of Athletics.

The Nest is being created to assist students at Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College.

Events to Commemmorate U.S. Constitution Day

Fairmont State University will celebrate the 225th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution with several events during the week of Sept. 17.

A panel discussion titled “Freedom of Speech in the 2012 Election,” sponsored by the Political Science Association, will take place in Hardway Hall Room 128 from noon to 12:50 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 17.
