Hear "Frankenstein, Frank N. Furter and Friends" on Wallman Stage

Oct 19, 2012

The Fairmont State Collegiate Singers and the Fairmont State Chamber Choir will present a concert titled “Frankenstein, Frank N. Furter and Friends” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, in the Wallman Hall Theatre.

Directed by Dr. Sam Spears with John Morrison as accompanist, the concert ties into the celebration of Halloween and the 2012-2013 Fairmont State University Common Reader project.

“When I learned that the Fairmont State University Common Reader for this year would be ‘Frankenstein’ by Mary Shelley, I immediately began to work on plans for a Halloween concert. I’ve never done a Halloween-themed concert before, so I was very interested to explore the musical possibilities. Because of the Frankenstein connection, I chose to focus on monsters ancient and modern that have haunted the lore and imagination of Western culture,” Spears said.

The musical selections to be performed by the Collegiate Singers include: “Chorus of Witches and Spirits” from “Der Vampyr” by Heinrich Marschner; “The Three Ravens,” an English folk ballad; “The Beauty of the Dream,” an original work by resident composer Daniel Eichenbaum set to selected texts from Shelley’s “Frankenstein”; “Hist Whist” by Jere Hutcheson; “Death is Gonna Lay His Cold Icy Hands on Me,” a traditional spiritual; “A New Life” from “Jekyll and Hyde” by Frank Wildhorn and Leslie Bricusse; and “The Time Warp” from “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” by Richard O’Brien. The Chamber Choir will perform the following musical selections: “Over Hill, Over Dale” by John Hatton; “Clamabant autem mulier channanea” by Pedro de Escobar; “Der Bucklichte Fiedler” by Johannes Brahams; “Molly Malone,” an Irish folk song; and “La Llorona” by Jose Barros.
