STAND Meeting Minutes

Welcome All
Thanks for visiting STAND Meeting Minutes

September 16, 2009

In attendance at this evening's meeting were co-advisor Erica Harvey, president Kevin Smith, vice president Chris Warnick, secretary Alicia Nieman, treasurer Chelsea Evenson, Jamie and Keith Hubbard, Tony Hawes, Jamie Ingram, and two representatives for Repower America.

Tonight we started with a meet and greet for the new faces and then we got to business. A short history of STAND was given, along with our current position on campus and what we do here in the community. Next, Erica discussed a bit more about our pending REAP grant proposal, and we will be finding out soon if we have been accepted to receive this grant. Basically the grant will allow us to purchase our own containers for bulk recycling for plastic, aluminum, and mixed recyclables, as well as a cardboard compactor; as opposed to renting the containers we have now. (I am not talking about the blue bins) On 1 October, our grant will be considered in Charleston. Next plans for homecoming events were discussed, and this is what we have decided to participate in this year: Banner Contest, International Expo, African Safari Scavenger Hunt, Community Service Learning in the form of either fundraiser or specific item donation for "global links", and the Parade Float. These activities are quickly approaching, and we will need help making this a memorable year. Please let us know as soon as possible if any of you are available to help with homecoming events. Lastly, we discussed our plans for the remainder of the fall semester. We will be having the Locust Avenue clean-ups, making plans for Earth Day, America Recycles Day ( Monday 16 November), G-20 Summit meeting in Pittsburgh, Set up of a recycling co-coordinator, fundraisers like STAND-AID and Game competitions, and T-shirts and other "memorabilia".
We will be having our FIRST Locust Avenue Clean-Up of the semester this Sunday, 20 September at 3pm. Please meet at the Wesley House on Locust Avenue at the foot of campus. Gloves and trash bags will be provided.
The next meeting will be Tuesday at 12:30 on 22 September on the terrace of the 3rd floor of the Falcon Center. The terrace is located outside, just through the conference rooms across from the cafeteria. We will be having meetings closer together until homecoming has past.
