Forum of information for students in the College of Science and Technology.

Advising Information

Advisors and class scheduling

You will need to see your advisor to register for classes each term. Consult the Registrar's Calendar to find the date when students with your class standing (freshman, sophomore, etc.) can pre-register for courses. Make an appointment with your advisor any time after the date you are allowed to pre-register.

Who is your advisor?

From the FSU website log into the Enrollment Center, from there you should be able to locate your official advisor listed under Student Information. If you don't see a listing, you may not have an official major or advisor yet. To change your major and your advisor to a degree program in the College of Science and Technology, you can stop by the main office in room 302 of the Engineering Technology building to pick-up the appropriate forms.

Visit the SciTech Advising page to locate advisors for majors in the College of Science and Technology.

Scheduling a meeting with your advisor

Your faculty advisors in the College of Science and Technology want to help you! On the SciTech Advising page, you will find a list of faculty advisors with contact information. Your advisor's schedule is also posted on their office door. If your available times do not match with their office hours, please contact your advisor by email and phone to set-up a meeting at a different time. Be sure to leave your contact information and available times in any messages you send.

Preparing for an advising appointment

Before arriving at an advising appointment, try to collect as much information on your own as possible.

  • Obtain a copy of the FSU Catalog from the Registrar or use the online version to familiarize yourself with the requirements for the program(s) you are interested in. Be aware that model schedules cannot convey all the details, thus it is extremly imporatnt that you meet with a faculty advisor in your major field.
  • Also available is a complete list of Liberal Studies Degree Requirements. Before arriving at your advising appointment, print out a copy of the Liberal Studies Degree Requirements and check-off those courses that you have already completed (and passed).
  • Examine the print or online course schedule and record the CRN numbers, titles and meeting times for the classes you would like to take and/or need to take according to the program requirements for your major. Map out a potential schedule to ensure that the courses do not conflict with each other.
  • Write down any questions or concerns you would like to address.

Preparing for your advising session will help you and your advisor make the most effective use of your time together.

When needed, your advisor can access Permission to Override and Permission to Overload forms through the SciTech Faculty forum. These forms are first signed by the Department Chair and then faxed to the Registrar's office by the staff in the College offices.
