Fairmont State University will host the second annual Order of La Sila scholarship dinner on Sunday, April 28. At this year’s event, U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin III will be the second person inducted as a “Tall Pine” into the Order of La Sila.
An April event in Clarksburg will honor a prominent Italian family and raise funds to support scholarships for Fairmont State University students to participate in an exchange program with the University of Calabria in Italy.
The Calabria-West Virginia Italian Heritage Association will sponsor a fundraiser this weekend to support students wishing to study at the University of Calabria in Italy.
The event, which will be held in conjunction with the annual West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival, will recognize the contribution to life in the state and beyond by a successful Italian-American, and encourage further exchange of students between Calabria and Fairmont.
Twenty-two Italian high school students will participate in "Mountains to Mountains from La Sila to Appalachia" Italian to American Cultural Camp this summer on the shared main campus of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College.
